Jared Goff found a new lease in life in Detroit Lions after his average stint with the Los Angeles Rams.

The former no. 1 overall pick of 2016 came to Detroit in 2021 after being traded for Matthew Stafford.

Many thought and believed that he was taken by the Lions just as a placeholder as the team searched for a new quarterback.

Goff had other things in mind. He quickly established himself as a leader of a young team hoping to give the city something to be proud of.

He helped the team reach the NFC Championship game last season although they lost to the San Francisco 49ers.

Goff was the undisputed leader of the team and the team is banking on him to do more in the next seasons by rewarding him with a huge deal.

Jared Goff's contract extension made him the second highest-paid quarterback in 2024.

He is going to be paid $212 million in the next four seasons, with $170 million guaranteed.

This extension also made him the highest paid ever in the Detroit Lions history.

While the extension appears as a reward for Goff's performance since arriving three years ago, it also signals the franchise's commitment to be a contender in the years to come.

Goff himself loves playing for the Lions. He wants to stay there forever.

He knows what's at stake with a new contract he received and he hopes to win it all for the team.

"It's very rare to have those three coaches stay in the same roles for three years," he said.

"With the Rams, we seemed to have a new quarterbacks coach every season. I think it compounds itself over time, and that shows in the ways we've been able to play together and work together.

"But all this does is set us up for what we want. The ultimate success is winning the Super Bowl."

Goff, Lions are Detroit sports' hope

Detroit sports haven't been that kind to their fans this season.

The Pistons had the worst record in the NBA and they did not get the no. 1 pick for next year's draft.

The Detroit Tigers in the MLB continue to be abysmal.

Goff and the Lions gave them something to cheer for last season.

The Super Bowl window is open for the Lions and they are ready to roar. The team is no longer about rebuilding and is now about sustaining.

Coach Dan Campbell has assembled a squad that complement Goff well.

They decided to lock wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and offensive tackle Penei Sewell for more years last month.

It is not only the players but also the staff.

Goff believes the team is surrounded with the right personnel to take them to the next level.

"Doing it in a place like this, where the fans are so passionate and care so much, and how honored I am to be their quarterback and be their leader," he said.

"And to play for Dan (Campbell) and play for (offensive coordinator) Ben (Johnson), (QB coach Mark) Brunell, and all the other coaches, and play with these teammates, it is really special. It's something I'll remember forever."

The Lions are primetime TV once again because of the Goff era.

For next season, they will have five games to be shown in primetime. This includes a showdown with Rams on Sunday Night Football during the opening week and a chance for revenge against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 17.

Goff's career was revive with the Lions. Not only that, he and the team continues to give Detroit hopes for sports glory.
