Harrison Butker Speech: Why Is Missouri AG Getting Involved and Why NFL Sees It as No-Issue

People on the internet, especially women's and LGBT rights activists, did not find Harrison Butker's speech at an art school amusing, and they think the Kansas City Chiefs player should be de-platformed when it comes to the topics he talked about.

While others kept their rage online, a Kansas City official X account did worse by leaking the NFL player's address.

The account has deleted the tweet since then, saying it was an error.

However, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is not letting it pass and is willing to go through legal means to punish the people involved.

"My office is demanding accountability after [Kansas City's X account] doxxed [Butker] last night for daring to express his religious beliefs," Bailey said on his social media account.

"I will enforce the Missouri Human Rights Act to ensure Missourians are not targeted for their free exercise of religion. Stay tuned."

Harrison Butker's speech was delivered during a commencement exercise at Benedict College, where he was invited to speak.

In his speech, he suggested that Pride Month is a deadly sin. He also told graduating students, a mix of girls and boys, that the most significant achievement a woman can achieve is to become a homemaker.

He suggested that it is the main purpose of a Catholic woman.

"I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you," Butker said.

"Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother."

His fans and other religious people defended him, saying he was basing on his experience.

That is the same reasoning the NFL was using when asked about its opinion on the alleged homophobic and misogynistic Harrison Butker speech.

"Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity," NFL senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer Jonathan Beane said in a statement.

"His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger."

His team is yet to comment on the issue.

Harrison Butker's jersey is a hit

Although there is a backlash, its impact on Butker's popularity is positive.

The player's jersey is selling fast in the NFL store and is even more popular right now than that of his superstar quarterback teammate, Patrick Mahomes.

Butker has been in the league since 2018 and has made many controversial comments concerning his religion and the role of women.

He is a vocal supporter of pro-life and pro-family movements.

Earlier this year, he was criticized by the Jewish community for saying that the Jewish people are "responsible for the death of Jesus."
