San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama entered the NBA with enormous hype and expectations, hailed as one of the greatest prospects in the history of the NBA.

However, he may have set even higher expectations for himself than fans and observers, who were mostly satisfied with what they saw in his debut year.

"Maybe it's the case, but it's not how I feel because I always, every day, try to push harder and do more, get more achievements, more records, more wins. But the next day I always tell myself that I didn't do enough and to push me even more," the 20-year-old told The Athletic.

During his rookie campaign, the first overall pick averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3.6 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game.

"So, it's my first impression that I didn't exceed any expectations, that I should have done more," the 7-foot-4 big man added.

Victor Wembanyama wins Rookie of the Year in dominant fashion

Wembanyama unanimously won the 2023-24 NBA Rookie of the Year award, surpassing finalists Oklahoma City Thunder center Chet Holmgren and Charlotte Hornets wing Brandon Miller.

The Frenchman became the sixth player in NBA history to win the award unanimously and the first one since Karl-Anthony Towns in 2015-16.

Other players who have won the Rookie of the Year award unanimously include Ralph Sampson (1983-84), David Robinson (1989-90), Blake Griffin (2010-11), and Damian Lillard (2012-13).
