Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler could be facing an eventful and pivotal offseason in his career.
The star forward missed the entire playoffs due to an MCL sprain sustained during their play-in tournament game against the Philadelphia 76ers last month.
In a surprising turn of events, Butler could find himself potentially heading to the Sixers under certain circumstances.
The 34-year-old, who has two years remaining on his deal, which includes a player option for the 2025-26 season, is reportedly seeking an extension with the Heat.
If Miami is unwilling to meet his demands, the Sixers could emerge as potential suitors for Butler.
This possibility arises as they are projected to have over $60 million in cap space this summer, allowing them to build around reigning MVP Joel Embiid and re-sign rising star Tyrese Maxey, who is eligible for a lucrative deal this offseason.
Butler previously played for the Sixers for the majority of the 2018-19 NBA season.
Jimmy Butler's insane contract extension demand
Meanwhile, despite having two years left on his current deal, Butler reportedly seeks a maximum two-year contract extension worth $113 million from the Heat this summer.
Failure to offer the extension during this offseason could potentially result in Butler becoming disgruntled with the team, as Heat reporter Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald reported.
Butler and his representatives want the extension signed before the 2024-25 NBA season.
