The Arizona Cardinals have secured an essential piece of their future by selecting wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. as the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday, April 25, in Detroit, Michigan.

However, Cardinals fans may have to wait a while before purchasing the 21-year-old's first NFL jersey.

Harrison Jr. has not yet signed a preliminary NFLPA licensing agreement, typically signed by all draftees, according to league insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.

As a result, the former Ohio State Buckeyes star's name and likeness cannot be monetized on draft night, leading to his jersey being unavailable for purchase and his absence from NFL video games such as the Madden franchise until his NFLPA agreement is finalized.

According to Mike Florio of NBC Sports, there's a possibility that Harrison Jr. may never sign an official NFLPA licensing deal, as players are not required to join the group licensing portion of it.

Draft day purchases of jerseys are getting popular

Purchasing a draftee's first official professional jersey on draft night has become increasingly popular among fans, especially recently.

In the 2021 NFL Draft, Trevor Lawrence set sports merchandise retailer Fanatics' record for the most jerseys sold on draft night when the Jacksonville Jaguars selected him with the first overall pick.

However, this record was surpassed when women's college basketball star Caitlin Clark was selected first overall by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft this month.
