The Dallas Cowboys are considering bringing back a former star following a year of separation.
The team is currently engaged in discussions with former running back Ezekiel Elliott for a potential reunion, as reported by league insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.
Despite the promising meeting at the team's facility with Elliott and his agent, Rocky Arceneaux, a deal has not yet been finalized.
The talks are particularly intriguing, especially given that they occurred just one day before the start of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Elliott remains a free agent after spending the 2023 season with the New England Patriots, during which he recorded 184 carries for 642 yards and scored five touchdowns in 17 games.
Ezekiel Elliott's career with the Cowboys
The 28-year-old spent the first seven seasons of his NFL career with the Cowboys from 2016 to 2022, establishing himself as one of the league's premier running backs for a considerable period.
The former Ohio State player earned Pro Bowl selections three times in 2016, 2018, and 2019, as well as being named First Team All-Pro in 2016 and Second Team All-Pro in 2018.
Furthermore, he also topped the league in rushing yards in 2016 and 2018.
"He is always going to be loved here. The love that he has, still today, in this locker room is tremendous. In our time together, he was clearly one of the most popular players. He is a tremendous teammate," Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said before the Cowboys-Patriots game last season, during which Elliott returned to Dallas for the first time as an opponent.
