Arsenal failed to achieve one of its major season objectives following a 1-0 loss against Bayern Munich in the second leg of its quarterfinal matchup at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, April 17.
After a thrilling 2-2 draw at home last week, they were unable to find the back of the net in Munich and were eliminated from the prestigious European competition with a 3-2 final aggregate scoreline.
After the disappointing result, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta revealed the gloomy mood in the London-based club's dressing room.
"It's a really gutted dressing room. Very disappointed. I cannot find the right words to leave them. I wish I had. We have to go through it," the Spanish manager said in the post-game interview.
Despite missing one of their major goals for the season, Arsenal still have a chance to win the Premier League. They are currently in second place, two points behind leaders Manchester City, with six league games remaining.
"It's the moment to stay next to the players and support because they are the ones that have taken us on this journey," Arteta added.
Bayern Munich have chance to salvage disastrous season
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have progressed to the semifinals of the Champions League for the first time since the 2019-20 season, where they won the whole thing.
This presents an opportunity for them to redeem themselves after losing the Bundesliga for the first time since 2011-12 to Bayer Leverkusen.
They are set to face Spanish giants Real Madrid in the semifinals.
