FC Barcelona wants to retain current manager Xavi Hernandez despite previously announcing that he will be departing the club at the end of the ongoing 2023-24 season.
Club President Joan Laporta is reportedly prepared to hold off on deciding on the next coach to allow Xavi to reconsider his decision.
The club aims to keep Xavi and honor his existing contract, which lasts until the end of the 2024-25 season at least, with a performance-based clause to potentially extend the deal until the 2025-26 season, according to journalist Reshad Rahman.
Laporta is determined to keep Xavi for several reasons. He believes that Xavi effectively utilizes the squad, especially nurturing young talents, and he also trusts the Spanish legend's ability to manage veteran players.

Joan Laporta willing to make a big promise to keep Xavi
Laporta will convince Xavi by ensuring he receives the signings he desires this summer.
Additionally, he is committed to fulfilling the long-term goal of bringing Manchester City star Erling Haaland to the Catalan squad in the coming years as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
Xavi announced at the end of January 2024 that he would depart the club following a poor string of results.
However, the team is currently regaining its rhythm and remains in contention for both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.
