Reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich may be contemplating an unexpected decision regarding their managerial vacancy for the upcoming season.
With their managerial position set to become available following the impending departure of current boss Thomas Tuchel after the ongoing 2023-24 season, the club is exploring an intriguing option.
Reports suggest the club is considering rehiring former manager Julian Nagelsmann to lead the team next season.
German news outlets have reported that Max Eberl, the club's director of sport, has already contacted the 36-year-old tactician to assess his interest in potentially returning to the club.
Bayern Munich announced last month that Tuchel would be departing at the end of the campaign, a decision possibly influenced by their current position in the Bundesliga.
They currently trail Bayer Leverkusen by ten points and are on the brink of losing the league title for the first time in 11 years.
Bayern Munich sacked Julian Nagelsmann despite decent record
Nagelsmann previously served as the manager of Bayern Munich for nearly two seasons, from the 2021-22 season until March 2023. Despite having a respectable record, he was replaced by Tuchel midseason.
Then-club CEO Oliver Kahn cited fluctuations in performance following the 2022 FIFA World Cup as one reason for the decision.
Currently, Nagelsmann is managing the German national football team on a short-term contract until the conclusion of UEFA Euro 2024.
