After a long offseason, New York baseball is back with the Yankees and Mets coming off the highs and lows of opening week.

So far, both New York teams have started the season on opposite ends of the spectrum, with the Yankees starting off hot, winning their first five, and the Mets doing the opposite.

Despite the records, it is still April, and the season is young. However, the dynamics of New York Baseball between the Yankees and the Mets couldn't be any further apart.

The New York Yankees Open on a High

The Yankees came out guns blazing to start the season. After a busy offseason, they reeled off their first five wins of the season in a row.

The New York Yankees managed to take care of business during opening week, with a season sweep of the Houston Astros. Their winning ways have so far carried into their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, picking up a win in game one.

The Yankees' significant offseason acquisition, Juan Soto, has already paid off for the Pinstripes after a strong performance against the Astros.

The Yankees managed to race to a 5-0 start even without starting pitcher Gerrit Cole, who was placed on a 60-day IL with right elbow inflammation; and without Aaron Judge playing up to his standards.

The star outfielder has moved to center field and has struggled to pick it up for the Yankees, but he is expected to find his footing as the season progresses.

The New York Mets Open on a Low

On the other end of the spectrum, the New York Mets have yet to get their first win of the season.

The Mets' start to the Carlos Mendoza era couldn't have gone any worse, as they stumbled during their season opening series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Mets relief pitcher Yohan Ramirez was disciplined for throwing behind Rhys Hoskins, leading to a two-game suspension.

The Mets are also dealing with an injury to a key rotational player in Tylor Megill, who is on IL with a right shoulder strain.

Despite the slow start to the season, Mets fans still have reason to be optimistic.

New York Mets pitcher Sean Manaea made history during the debut by not allowing a hit. The Mets still have one of the more talented rosters in baseball with names like Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor, who have been staples in New York for the Mets.
