Reigning National League Cy Young award winner and marquee free agent signing Blake Snell is about to make his debut for his new team, the San Francisco Giants.
The Giants have finally set a target date for the debut of the 31-year-old, arguably the most sought-after pitcher on the open market.
Snell is scheduled to make his Giants debut next Monday, April 8, at home against the Washington Nationals, as announced by manager Bob Melvin.
"It just doesn't feel like we're there yet for him. So I think he's gonna feel a lot better [after Wednesday, the last of a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers]," Melvin said.
Snell agreed to a two-year contract worth $62 million with the Giants on March 18, concluding his highly publicized free agency as the offseason drew close.
Blake Snell to undergo simulated game before making Giants debut
The left-hander will throw a simulated game on Wednesday in Los Angeles while the team plays their series finale against the Dodgers.
Melvin mentioned that he anticipates Snell throwing around 70 pitches with some of his Giants teammates to gear up for his much-anticipated debut.
"We'll get some big league guys in there to challenge him," Melvin added.
Last season, Snell posted a record of 14-9 with a 2.25 ERA, 1.189 WHIP, 234 strikeouts, and a 6.2 WAR while playing for the San Diego Padres, also under Bob Melvin.
