Former NFL cornerback Vontae Davis, who played for three teams in the league, was discovered dead in his home at Southwest Ranches, a town in South Florida, on Monday, April 1. He was 35 years old.

Davis had a career spanning ten seasons in the NFL, beginning with the Miami Dolphins from 2009 to 2011, followed by the Indianapolis Colts from 2012 to 2017, and finally the Buffalo Bills in 2018.

Authorities in the Fort Lauderdale suburb of Davie stated they were called to Davis' residence on Monday morning in response to a medical emergency. Unfortunately, the two-time Pro Bowl selection (2014 and 2015) was deceased by the time officers arrived at the scene.

The cause of death has not been disclosed, pending the results of an autopsy. On the other hand, police emphasized that the incident investigation remains ongoing, but no foul play was suspected.

Davis is the brother of Super Bowl champion tight end Vernon Davis, who also made the Pro Bowl game twice.

Vontae Davis retired from the NFL in a unique manner

In 2018, Davis signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Buffalo Bills. However, in September 2018, he made the unprecedented decision to retire abruptly at halftime during the team's Week 2 game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

This bizarre decision stunned both his teammates and the league as a whole.

"I had more of an out-of-body, spiritual moment, and my intuition was telling me that football was no longer for me," he told CNN during that time.
