Why Did the Pistons Rule out Ausar Thompson for the Rest of the Season?

The Detroit Pistons will be without two key players as they navigate the remainder of the 2023-24 NBA season.

The team announced that rookie small forward Ausar Thompson will be out of action as he undergoes treatment for a blood clot.

Under the care of Pistons' team physician, Dr. Ramsey Shehab, Thompson has received clearance to start conditioning and will gradually ease into non-contact basketball activities after the regular season concludes.

This gradual approach will continue over the summer months, aiming for a complete recovery and a comeback for his sophomore year in the following season.

Thompson has missed the last five games for the Pistons. He last played on March 9 against the Dallas Mavericks at home, scoring four points, five rebounds, and one steal.

Detroit selected the 6-foot-7 player with the fifth overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, one spot after his brother Amen, who was taken by the Houston Rockets.

Throughout his rookie campaign, the 21-year-old has maintained an average of 8.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists across 63 games.

Pistons big man to also miss the rest of the season

In addition to Thompson's absence, the Detroit Pistons will also be without power forward/center Isaiah Stewart for the remainder of the 2023-24 NBA season.

The 6-foot-8 big man sustained a right hamstring strain during the third quarter of their recent road game against the Boston Celtics on Monday, March 18.

The 22-year-old has posted averages of 10.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 46 games played this season.
