The New York Jets have secured a backup for star quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and interestingly, they didn't have to search far to find their solution.

The Jets have signed Tyrod Taylor to a two-year contract worth up to $18 million, according to league insider Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

This move comes after the veteran signal-caller spent the last two seasons with crosstown rivals New York Giants. Securing a dependable backup for Rodgers was a top priority for the Jets this offseason.

The Jets faced criticism for having Zach Wilson as their backup quarterback last season.

The 34-year-old Taylor will stay in New York and continue to consider MetLife Stadium in New Jersey his home field.

The Jets will mark Taylor's seventh NFL stop, adding to his previous stints mostly as a backup quarterback with the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, Houston Texans, and Giants.

Tyrod Taylor started in five games for the Giants last year

Last season, Taylor started five games for the Giants, posting a 2-3 record after starter Daniel Jones went down with an ACL injury.

During this time, Taylor threw for five touchdowns, three interceptions, and accumulated 1,341 passing yards.

The former Virginia Tech player is one of the NFL's premier backup quarterbacks, showcasing the capability to deliver proficient performances when needed.
