The Kansas City Chiefs have seen the departure of two multiple-time Super Bowl champions who played crucial roles in their title victories. Both are moving on to free agency.
The day for the franchise began with the loss of punter Tommy Townsend, who signed a two-year, $6 million deal with the Houston Texans, according to league insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Last season, the 27-year-old had 59 punts, averaging 47.1 yards per punt as he successfully downed 20 of his attempts inside the 20-yard line for the reigning Super Bowl champions.
The Kansas City Chiefs signed Townsend as an undrafted free agent in 2020, and he was a member of two Super Bowl-winning rosters in 2022 and 2023.
The Chiefs also lose three-time Super Bowl champion
Meanwhile, the Chiefs also faced the departure of guard Nick Allegretti, who signed a three-year, $16 million deal with the Washington Commanders, including $9.02 million in guaranteed money, per league insider Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.
The 27-year-old was crucial to the Chiefs' championship victories in 2019, 2022, and 2023, their ongoing Super Bowl dynasty.
Allegretti tore the UCL in his left elbow in the second quarter of the most recent Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers last month.
However, he displayed remarkable resilience by playing through the entire game and contributing significantly to anchoring the Chiefs' offensive interior, leading to the win.
