The Minnesota Timberwolves have suffered a massive injury blow to one of their best players.

Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns is set to undergo surgery to repair a torn meniscus on his left knee, according to league insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The 28-year-old will undergo a reevaluation in four weeks, with the procedure aimed at giving him the chance to return during the early stages of the postseason.

The Timberwolves' last regular-season game is scheduled for April 14 at home against the Phoenix Suns, while the opening round of the playoffs is set to commence on April 20.

Upon discovering the tear through an MRI during the past few days, Towns consulted with team doctors and specialists to determine the best course of action.

The former first-overall pick decided on the immediate procedure, aiming to give him a chance to undergo rehabilitation and swiftly return to the team in time for the playoffs.
