Iowa guard Caitlin Clark declared for the WNBA draft yesterday, skipping the upcoming forging fifth year of eligibility as a Hawkeye.
She announced that one game remained ahead of their matchup against Ohio State.
"While this season is far from over, and we have a lot more goals to achieve, it will be my last one at Iowa," Clark wrote on social media.
"I am excited to be entering the 2024 WNBA Draft."
The Iowa sensation has rocked the College basketball landscape throughout her four years as a Hawkeye. She won the consensus National Player of the Year as a junior in 2023 while leading her Hawkeyes to the National Championship.
During Clark's fourth year, she broke the NCAA women's scoring record, surpassing Kelsey Plum with a 49-point performance against Michigan; and she is only 18 points away from surpassing Pistol Pete Maravich's all-time scoring record in NCAA history.
Caitlin Clark is averaging 32.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 8.7 assists this season alone.
Caitlin Clark to the Indiana Fever
Things certainly look up in the city of Indiana.
The Indiana Fever own the first pick in the WNBA Draft for the second time and it's extremely likely they will take Clark with that pick in this year's star-studded draft.
Last season, the Fever took South Carolina center Aliyah Boston, the unanimous Rookie of the Year and All-Star.
There have been debates on how her game will translate to the WNBA, but it's hard to not imagine what the West Des Moines resident could do in the next stage of her career.
With Clark and Boston, it's likely the Fever could run the WNBA for years to come and help the team capture a second championship season.
The Fever finished 13-27 last season despite a strong season from Boston.
Clark and Boston faced off in the 2023 Final Four, where Iowa upset the then-undefeated South Carolina team. Boston spent the NCAA regular season in the Peacock studio covering Big Ten games, where she regularly interviewed Clark postgame on the air.
Now, the two would likely share the court together as teammates.
The WNBA has recognized the star power that Clark possesses. The league announced for the first time that the draft will be held with fans in attendance, proving that they are all in on the Caitlin Clark mania.
The league has seen massive rating jumps over the years, with last year's WNBA Finals seeing its highest viewership on ESPN. Likely Clark can be the draw the league has been looking for.
