The New England Patriots are said to be in the market for a new quarterback next season.

The franchise seems keen on taking a quarterback with their No.3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. With many on the same page within the organization regarding the idea of finding a new franchise player at the position, per Jeff Howe and Chad Graff of the Athletic.

Furthermore, MassLive.com's Karen Guregian, Mark Daniels and Chris Mason, reported that multiple citations have informed them that the Patriots plan to use their pick on a quarterback, sign a veteran, and will likely trade Mac Jones at some point this offseason.

The team may likely be in the running to take USC's Caleb Williams, North Carolina's Drake Maye, or LSU's Jayden Daniels; all are among the top three QB prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Patriots intend on meeting with each young quarterback during the NFL Combine.

Michigan's J.J. McCarthy and Oregon's Bo Nix are also two candidates that the Patriots may consider taking.

New England Patriots: Searching for a Veteran QB Presence

The Patriots also look to hold meetings with several veteran quarterbacks during the offseason, including Kirk Cousins, Baker Mayfield, Ryan Tannehill, and Joe Flacco.

Whoever comes in would likely have big shoes to fill, as the Patriots got spoiled in 2001-2019 in having what many deem as the greatest quarterback of all time in Tom Brady.

After 2019, Brady moved on from New England and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, forcing the Patriots to look elsewhere at quarterback. They signed veteran Cam Newton as a quick fix in that time. However, under Newton they finished the season 7-9, missing the playoffs.

They then drafted Mac Jones with the No,15 pick in the NFL 2021 Draft. Under Jones, the Patriots finished 10-7 and made the playoffs in his rookie year. Jones struggled during his most recent season in New England, going 2-9 as a starter and having a steep drop off in his production; completing 64.9 percent of his passes for 2,120 yards, 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

As a result, the Patriots went 4-13 in Bill Belichick's final season with the franchise as head coach.

With new coach Jarod Mayo coming in to replace Belichick, the Patriots may look to find a new signal caller for the once-dominant franchise as well.
