There's no doubt that the USC quarterback Caleb Williams is viewed as the census No.1 overall pick coming into the 2024 NFL Draft.
The quarterback has had an eclectic final season at USC throwing for 3,633 receiving yards, 30 touchdowns, and five interceptions, completing 68.6% of his passes.
Despite Wiliams' excellence, there is a narrative surrounding the quarterback that he doesn't want to play in Chicago.
Well, the rumors were put to bed on Tuesday.
The future NFL quarterback told ESPN reporter Pete Thamel that he would be excited to play for the Bears.
"If I get drafted by the Bears, I'll be excited," he said. "If they trade the pick, and I get drafted by someone else, I'm just as excited. Speaking about Chicago, they have a talented team, a talented offense and defense. For anyone to be in that situation, I think they'd be excited."
Williams added, "I'm not pushing any agenda," Williams said. "At the end of the day, the Bears have the last say. Regardless of how I feel, I'm not pushing an agenda of, 'Yeah, I want to go. Or no, I don't want to go.' I'm excited for whatever comes."
Williams then revealed that he had been to Chicago once and had heard good things about the passionate Bears fans. The young quarterback even referred to having watched videos in studying both Jordan and Payton, two of the city's most iconic athletes.
"I'm 22. I didn't really get to see those players," Williams said.
Still, Bears fans have a lot of reasons to be optimistic about Williams' statement.
Other Teams in the Hunt For Caleb Williams
Williams has proven to be the consensus number-one pick amongst many draft experts and has shown the potential to be the franchise guy throughout his time at USC.
Williams arrived at the NFL Combine earlier this week. He is expected to meet with the Bears, Commanders, New England Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets, and the New York Giants, as reported by NFL Insider Ian Rapport.
He revealed that he would not participate in throwing drills, opting to showcase his skills at USC Pro Day on March 20th.
Another team that may be in play for Williams is the Commanders. Washington currently owns the second pick in the NFL Draft and could likely be looking to add another quarterback to their roster for next season.
"It would be cool because of the familiarity with the team," said Caleb Williams, a Washington DC native, when discussing the Commanders.
Either way, the 2022 Heisman winner is currently focusing on football.
"There's a time and place for everything," Williams said. "My job and hobby are being at the facility, on the field, or watching films. Or relaxing and prepping for the next day or game."
"My main goal and focus ... is to go win games and stay focused on keeping the main goal the main goal."
