NBA Trade Deadline: Hornets P.J. Washington to Mavericks

The Charlotte Hornets are trading power forward P.J. Washington to the Dallas Mavericks for wingman Grant Williams, Seth Curry and a first-round pick, per Shams Charania of the Athletic.

Shams reported that the first-round pick will be Dallas 2027 selection and will be a top-two projected pick. The Mavericks will also receive two second-round picks from the Hornets.

Washington, who spent most of his career with the Hornets is averaging 13.6 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 35.9% from behind the arc this season. He joins a Mavericks team looking to improve its frontcourt.

According to Dallas Basketball.com, the Mavericks have wanted to trade for Washington for some time, as he was a target for the franchise in free agency.

Willams, who was acquired in a sign-and-trade deal in the 2023 NBA offseason after spending time with the Boston Celtics, is averaging 8.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Unfortunately, he has seen a decline in production, from shooting 45.4 percent from the field to 41.3 percent.

Seth Curry re-signed with the Dallas Mavericks during the offseason and has played in 36 games this season; averaging 4.3 points per game and shooting 36.3 percent from the field.

Both Curry and Williams will provide much needed veteran leadership for a rebuilding Hornets team.
