The Kansas City Chiefs are set to make their second consecutive Super Bowl appearance, marking their fourth in the last five seasons. However, Kansas City star quarterback Patrick Mahomes might have another concern on his mind leading up to the championship game.

Patrick "Pat" Mahomes Sr., the father of the reigning Super Bowl MVP, was arrested on the evening of Saturday, February 3, in Tyler, Texas, under suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

His apprehension occurred eight days before his son and the Chiefs are scheduled to compete in Super Bowl 58 against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, February 11 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mahomes recently attended the Chiefs' AFC Championship Game showdown against the Baltimore Ravens on January 28.

Pat Mahomes Sr. Arrested

The elder Mahomes was charged with a DWI and subsequently booked at Smith County Jail in Tyler, Texas. Jail records indicate that Mahomes, aged 53, was released on Sunday, February 4, after posting a $10,000 surety bond.

As per CNN, before his arrest on February 3, jail records reveal that Mahomes Sr. had been booked a total of 11 times since 2009, which included charges related to driving while intoxicated.

Under Texas law, Mahomes Sr. could potentially be subject to a substantial prison sentence. With this being his sixth DUI offense, he faces the prospect of about two to ten years in prison.

Mahomes Sr. encountered his initial arrest on the same charge in March 2012, followed by a subsequent arrest in September of the same year. His third charge occurred in April 2018, with the fourth in November 2018, according to Us Weekly.

Upon his fifth arrest for drunk driving in March 2019, he was jailed from March 15 to April 7 before completing his 40-day sentence on a weekend work release program. Fortunately, no one suffered serious injuries or worse in his latest incident.
