The Washington Commanders made one of the biggest hires in 2023, bringing in Eric Bieniemy from the Kansas Chiefs as their new offensive coordinator. Fast forward a year later, the team is letting Behiemy walk.
Former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury will be the new offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders, making Eric Bieniemy expendable.
The news comes a few days after the Commanders have hired former Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn as their new head coach.
Kliff Kingsbury in D.C.
Kliff Kingsbury was close to taking the Las Vegas Raider offensive coordinator job. However, the talks broke down, leading the Commanders to come and hire the former head coach.
Kingsbury spent four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals from 2019 to 2022. He was tasked with developing quarterback Kyler Murray, whom he coached during his rookie season.
Prior to his stop in Arizona, he spent time at Texas Tech as their head coach, working with Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield.
Now in Washington, he would be tasked with improving the Commanders' offense, which at times struggled for most of last season with Sam Howell at quarterback.
Also, note that Kingsbury spent the past fall as USC's quarterbacks coach working closely with quarterback Caleb Williams, who is projected to be a top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Beiniemy came into D.C. with a lot of fanfare after spending time with the Kansas City Chiefs. Though he is still under contract with the Commanders, Dann Quinn says he would not be a part of Washington staff this year.
Now being out of Washington, it seems Beiniemy would be looking for a job this coming season.
