The Detroit Pistons continue to make a name for themselves, although it isn't something that any team or anyone would want to have. Their losing skid continues and now stands at 20 games.
The Motor City squad suffered their 20th loss on Monday, December 11, at the hands of the Indiana Pacers, 131-123. The Pistons current losing run is the longest in franchise history and matches the 20-straight games that the Houston Rockets had in the 2020-21 season, ABC News reported.
Sportsnet Stats added that the Pistons are now the 9th team in NBA history to lose 20 straight games within a season.
First-year coach Monty Williams is one person caught in the middle of this mess. He is someone who knows how to turn things around in the past, although the Pistons' case is a far different one.
But rather than complain, he looks at the bright side of their performance rather than sulk and point fingers.
"As much as this losing hurts us, and it hurts like you can't believe, I see a lot of growth," Williams said. "I'm encouraged by some of the things we saw tonight. We just need to build on them."
Should the Pistons break it up?
With the season imminently lost, the best the Pistons can do now is deal away players that may no longer be worth keeping. One of them is Bojan Bogdanovic.
The 34-year-old is signed through the 2024-25 season, although his contract is not guaranteed. As far as trading him, the Pistons reportedly want a large offer before agreeing to any deal, per Fred Katz of The Athletic.
Detroit is looking for pieces of the future that can help them get back on track. They are no strangers to playing hardball when it comes to trading players.
One example is Jerami Grant. Only after two years did the Pistons deal him in exchange for a future first-round pick to the Portland Trail Blazers in June 2022, per NBA.com.
