Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders and girlfriend Tracey Edmonds announced they were going their separate ways on Sunday, December 3. It was a surprising development, considering the two had announced their engagement in 2019.

Both issued a joint statement on social media, asking everyone for prayers as they go through this transition, TMZ reported.

"Please keep us in your prayers as we go through this transition. Thank you for being there for us ALL THESE YEARS! We love you and appreciate you SO MUCH!" the statement read.

Several days later, Edmonds put up a new post, thanking well-wishers for the beautiful messages to her.

"Fam, thank you for all of your beautiful posts, messages, texts, and calls. Even though I'm unable to get back to you right now, KNOW that I'm grateful for them. Your love, support, and kindness REFUELS me! Sending everyone LOVE!" the 56-year-old posted on her Instagram.

Better off as friends

It remains a mystery why the couple called off their engagement. Regardless, it appears that the decision was difficult, and their love for one another remains. The only difference is that they will carry on as friends.

Sanders hailed Edmonds in the comment section of the since-deleted Instagram post, calling her a true blessing, the New York Post reported.

Sanders and Edmonds are busy with their respective careers and have to settle for a long-distance relationship. Coach Prime continues to focus on the Colorado Buffaloes football program while Edmonds is busy with her own production company, per the Denver Post.

Both are also blessed with children that they attend to. The love could be felt between them, although it would be interesting if they changed their minds moving forward.
