Panthers Coaching Search: Bill Belichick Option Gets Critical Update From NFL Insider

The Carolina Panthers are looking for a new coach, and Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots has been linked to the job opening. Unfortunately, the chances of seeing the 8-time Super Bowl champion coach took a huge blow.

This is after NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler came out with a report that after talking to unnamed people around the league, the Panthers are leaning toward getting a young offensive coach to replace Frank Reich.

Hence, it becomes the latest indication that Panthers owner David Tepper may not attempt to lure Belichick to call the shots for the Panthers.

Luring Belichick out of New England is unrealistic

Belichick has struggled trying to lead the Patriots to a credible finish since the exit of Tom Brady in 2020. Their current season alone has gotten critics thinking that the 3-time AP NFL Coach of the Year could be on his way out.

Unfortunately, the chances of that happening are slim. Belichick signed a lucrative multi-year deal with the Pats last offseason, something that only went public in October, NFL.com reported.

Panthers want a younger coach to take over

Several names were also mentioned after claiming that the Panthers were allegedly going for a younger coach. That list includes:

  • Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson
  • Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson
  • Houston Texans coordinator Bobby Slowik
  • Miami Dolphins coordinator Frank Smith

Also, it was suggested by Charlotte Observer columnist Scott Fowler that Tepper would go for a hotshot young offensive coordinator who can help hone the talents of Bryce Young further.

David Tepper's promise...again

After dismissing Reich, Tepper vowed that he would make things better. It was the third time that he had made such a promise. Ironically, since taking over the Panthers, he has fired a head coach in the middle of the season.

"Trying to make things better is what you always try to do. Obviously that record's not good enough. There's no hiding it. It is what it is. That record's that record. Like I said, it's not good enough. We're going to self-reflect and make it better," the billionaire hedge fund manager said via WCNC Charlotte.
