The New York Jets have yet to name their starting quarterback when they face the Houston Texans on Sunday, December 10. Jets coach Robert Saleh says he isn't quite there yet, although it may boil down to two choices - Trevor Siemian and Zach Wilson.

Siemian spelled an ineffective Tim Boyle against the Falcons last Sunday, December 3, but the 31-year-old was hardly able to make a difference as the Jets lost, 13-8, its fifth-straight game this season.

Worth considering here is that Siemian could still get a chance. The 31-year-old replaced Boyle in the fourth quarter, so Saleh could still give him another chance.

But that was before Zach Wilson entered the picture. The 24-year-old reportedly met with Saleh on Monday and expressed his desire to start. This stemmed from a report claiming that the Jets were contemplating making him start again against the Texans via The Athletic.

Regardless, Saleh appreciated Wilson's gesture. However, his decision on who the starting quarterback will be against the Texans is still in the air, ESPN reported.

"He believes he's the best quarterback in the room and the best quarterback for this team and the guy who gives us the best chance to win. And I'll tell you guys the same thing I told him: I appreciate it. I appreciate the fact that he wants to play. I'm just not there yet [with a decision]," the 44-year-old coach said.

Here are some potential reasons why Zach Wilson may not get the chance to be the Jets' starting play-caller for the current NFL season.

Siemian is given the chance to start and does well

Although he was unable to turn things around for the Jets against the Falcons, Saleh could give Siemian another chance against the Texans. He is a veteran and someone who could do better if given a longer spell on the field.

Siemian is waiting for a break to prove that he can still play. He had his best moments with the Denver Broncos before injuries hampered his run, USA Today reported. He has tried to recall his old form but never got the proper time to do so. Could this be an opportunity for the Super Bowl champion quarterback?

Aaron Rodgers' return could shut down

Nothing has been set in stone as far as an Aaron Rodgers return this season is concerned. For some, the 39-year-old has nothing to lose. Given his injury, a return would initially look improbable.

Regardless, the 10-time Pro Bowler remains upbeat and has been working his way to health. Should he return, it would address the Jets' void at QB. But as far as efficiency and longevity, there is no telling if Rodgers will be the same and last.

Saleh won't take the risk

Wilson is the plausible choice, but his game needs more polishing. He was allowed to start for the Jets but received more backlash than praise.

Wilson may get the chance but only after Saleh tries out Siemian and sees where Rodgers is at. Assuming the Jets still have games, that is perhaps the only time Wilson will get to play for the embattled New York Jets.
