The Los Angeles Angels are gearing up for the 2024 MLB season with the appointment of veteran coach Ron Washington as their new manager.
Washington will receive a two-year contract from the Angels, according to ESPN.
Since 2017, Washington has served as the third base coach for the Atlanta Braves, who concluded the 2023 season with an impressive record of 104-58.
The Braves secured the National League East Division title and boasted the best overall regular season record in the MLB.
However, their postseason ended when they were eliminated by the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Division Series, losing the series in four games.
Washington previously served as the manager of the Texas Rangers from 2007 to 2014, going 664-611 (.521) in eight seasons.
Notably, this period included an impressive streak of four consecutive 90-win seasons from 2010 to 2013, along with two World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011.
He also served as an infield and third base coach for the Oakland Athletics in two periods, from 1996 to 2006 and 2015 to 2016.
Washington steps in as a replacement for Phil Nevin, who assumed the managerial role in the middle of the 2022 season but was subsequently dismissed last month.

The 71-year-old now assumes the position of the oldest manager in the league following the retirement of Dusty Baker from the Houston Astros.
Bruce Bochy of the Rangers and Brian Snitker of the Braves follow closely behind, both aged 68.
The Angels finished the 2023 season with a 73-89 record, fourth place in the American League West, and missing the playoffs despite having two of the best players in baseball in Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout.
