New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman addressed the media for the first time since the team experienced a "disastrous" 2023 season, finishing with an 82-80 win-loss record and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

During his statement on Tuesday, the executive went on to make a proud and passionate rant about members of the Yankees organization, highlighting that several other teams were attempting to "poach" some of their employees.

"I'm proud of our people, and I'm proud of our process. Doesn't mean we're firing on all cylinders, doesn't mean we're the best in class. But I think we're pretty f***ing good, personally. I'm proud of our people, and I'm also looking forward to '24 being a better year than '23," the 56-year-old said.

Brian Cashman reflects on poor season

The Yankees wrapped up their 2023 campaign at the fourth spot in the American League East, marking their poorest performance since the 1992 season. They also lost nine games in a row for the first time since 1982.

This underwhelming campaign occurred despite the team's massive payroll at $281 million, which stood as the second-highest in the league, leading to an estimated luxury tax bill of $31 million.

"We only won 82 games, we didn't make the playoffs. I called it a disaster because it was unexpected, and it was a disaster. That roster on paper was a hell of a lot better than it played out," the four-time World Series winning executive added.
