The Buffalo Bills have signed Leonard Fournette to fill the growing gaps in their running back department as the team make a playoff push.
Fournette already passed the medical exam and will join the team's practice squad.
He was drafted as fourth overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2017 and was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. He was part of the 2020 Buccaneers squad that won the Super Bowl LV.
Fournette is called Playoff Lenny because the way he elevates his game come playoff time, most especially during Bucs 2020 postseason run where he recorded 448 scrimmage yards. He also rushed for 135 yards as Tampa Bay beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the final game.
Will he become part of the 53-man roster?
For now Fournette will remain with the practice squad but many believe he will be pushed to the main 53-man roster due to the running back deficiency of the Bills.
Damien Harris recently went down with an injury and that means James Cook and Latavius Murray have to split the carrying job for the team.
The Athletic's Dianna Russini and Joe Buscaglia reported that the plan is to slowly assimilate Fournette into the main team.
"The Bills could choose to use the time this week as a slow ramp-up for Fournette from a physical and playbook-learning standpoint, as he hasn't been on a roster since the 2022 season."
