Mack Brown Fired Soon? Texas Coach Set To Resign After Loss In Big 12 Championship? [VIDEO]

Sports Illustrated is reporting Mack Brown plans to resign as head coach of the Texas Longhorns after 16 seasons.

The embattled coach came under heavy fire this season when the Longhorns posted an 8-4 mark and were blown out by 20 points or more in two of their final three games, including a 30-10 loss to state-rival Baylor with the Big 12 title on the line.

Multiple media outlets have reported Brown recently met with Texas athletic director Steve Patterson and the two were expected to quickly determine his fate. In the wake of that meeting, The Dallas Morning News reported discussions were thought to have been "positive and productive" and Brown was not asked to resign.

Overall, Brown has gone 18-17 in conference play over the last four seasons. In 16 seasons, Brown has posted a 158-47 record at Texas, including a perfect 13-0, national championship season in 2005 when he was led by quarterback Vince Young.

Before coming to Texas, the 62-year-old Brown previously coached at Appalachian State, Tulane and North Carolina. In 2006, he was selected as winner of the Paul "Bear" Bryant Coach of the Year Award and in November of 2008 he recorded his 2ooth career win, making him the first Texas coach to reach that mark.
