Indianapolis Colts' Jonathan Taylor got his first touchdown for the season, although it would have been sweeter if his team had won over the Cleveland Browns, 39-38.
But tied to that, the 24-year-old Colts' running back added that the NFL mandated him to take a drug test. Taylor was randomly selected to be drug tested, ironically after the best game he has played so far this season.
NFL players who are to undergo drug testing are selected at random by a computer per the joint drug testing policy. However, the choice of players has rendered some curious coincidences, per the Bleacher Report.
Taylor finished the game with 75 yards on 18 carries while catching three passes for 45 yards. It was a breakthrough performance for the 2021 NFL Rushing Yards leader after missing the first four games of the 2023-24 NFL season.
Taylor not the only one to get coincidental drug testing
Aside from Taylor, there is the case of A.J. Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles last year. After their win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, 35-13, where he caught three touchdowns, the 26-year-old was among those randomly selected, CBS Sports reported.
Brown would be selected again last October 1. This was after having two touchdowns in the Eagles' win over Washington Commanders, 34-31, the Philly Inquirer reported.
Given the random drug testing cases of Taylor and Brown, it appears to be the unfortunate luck of the draw that they get selected after a good game.
