The Memphis Grizzlies roster just got a huge hit following reports of Steven Adams' surgery. The 6-foot-11 center has been ruled out for the season after the team announced that the 12th overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft will undergo season-ending knee surgery on Sunday, October 22.
Adams has not seen action since January. He suffered a right knee injury in the Grizzlies' loss to the Phoenix Suns, 112-110, at the time, ESPN reported. He was diagnosed with a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) sprain in his right knee.
The former Pittsburgh Panther received a stem cell injection shortly after and relied on non-operative rehabilitation to address the injury. Unfortunately, this was unable to resolve Adams' ongoing knee instability.
Grizzlies prowling for a big man
With the Steven Adams injury update, Memphis will have to explore options to fill their big man void. Considering Adams is one of the best rebounders in the league, the Grizzlies may have their work cut out for them, CBS Sports reported.
Memphis has options, although this may include moving Ja Morant to the suspended list. They can file a Disabled Player Exception (DPE) and sign a replacement player by November 2 and use their $12.4M non-tax midlevel, $7.5M trade, or $4.5M biannual exception, ESPN's Bobby Marks suggested via SI.com.
With only a few days to go, the Grizzlies depth chart was dealt a huge blow. They will have to ride it out for the first few weeks until they get a big man to fill the Steven Adams void.
