The Dallas Cowboys are in a bye week, and most are wondering about the fate of Dak Prescott in the offseason. The 30-year-old faces plenty of criticism, although he made a good account of himself in their win over the Los Angeles Chargers, 20-17, last October 16.

Dak Prescott contract extension talks are on the table this coming NFL season. He is on the books for one more season and is due $34 million next year. However, due to a restructure, his 2024 cap is projected to tip $59.5 million, which would be an NFL record for the largest cap burden a player has carried in NFL history, SI.com reported.

The Dallas Cowboys are aware of when Dak Prescott's contract ends. But for Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones, this will be all ironed out once the current NFL season ends, The Athletic reported.

"Once the season is over, we will focus on that. Dak will be our quarterback," the Cowboys executive stated.

Jones may be trying to avoid distractions for the season with the Cowboys toting a 4-2 win-loss record. Dallas wants to see if Prescott can help lead the team into Super Bowl contention.

Dak Prescott knows what's at stake

Against the Chargers, the 2016 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year needed to do something to put out the flames of criticism. He did that in Week 6 action, throwing for 272 yards and a touchdown as Dallas rallied in the fourth quarter.

With the Cowboys drawing a bye, the rumblings have somehow softened. However, expect all eyes to be on Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys when they return to the field on October 29, this time against the Los Angeles Rams.
