The San Francisco Giants are reportedly putting their manager search on hold to replace the recently fired Gabe Keppler. Although several names are mentioned, a Bob Melvin move to the Giants makes sense.

Melvin, still officially holding his post as manager for the San Diego Padres, is one of many names that could take over from Keppler. But with the Giants allegedly placing everything on pause per The Athletic, any move involving the 61-year-old manager may have to wait.

Above all, any Bob Melvin-Giant's coming will need the blessing of the Friars. However, the fact that the Padres manager does not see eye-to-eye with Padres President of Baseball Operations A.J. Preller could raise the odds of Bob Melvin being the next Giants coach, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported.

A monkey wrench in the equation is that despite their differences, the Padres plan to bring Melvin back.

Given that the Padres did not have an impressive season, plus the odd relationship between Melvin and Preller, a parting of ways seems logical, SI.com suggested.

Regardless, San Francisco has options on who to select and take over from Keppler.

Aside from Melvin, former Giants hitting coach and current Rangers offensive coordinator Donnie Ecker, Seattle Mariners bullpen and quality control coach Stephen Vogt, interim manager Kai Correa, and assistant coach Alyssa Nakken have also been linked to the vacant post.

Mark Halberg, another assistant coach, has also been mentioned and is said to be the front-runner to land the job, per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
