Craig Anderson will technically suit up for one last game with the Ottawa Senators so the veteran NHL player can officially retire as a member of the team.

This revelation from Darren Dreger of TSN comes not long after it was announced that the 42-year-old goaltender will join the Buffalo Sabres as a hockey liaison on a part-time basis.

It was a fitting tribute to the NHL player who played for the Senators from 2011 to 2020. But with Father Time catching up on him, the Senators announced that they would not be bringing back Anderson, who showed signs of slowing down.

Nevertheless, Anderson drew praise from the organization, with former general manager Pierre Dorion branding him as the best goalie that the team ever had, NHL.com reported.

When will Anderson be honored?

The Senators plan to honor Anderson before their game against the Sabres on October 24. The timing appears perfect, considering the 42-year-old played his last two NHL seasons with Buffalo.

This was on April 13, 2023, when Anderson was part of the 4-3 overtime win of the Sabres over the Senators, ESPN reported.

"Craig Anderson's voice, experience, and love for the game have been invaluable components to our team's growth over the past two seasons," Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams stated. "Our players have benefited greatly from the habits and lessons he picked up during his accomplished 20-year career."

For his part, Anderson is thankful for the recognition he is getting after years of playing in the NHL.

"This is what makes it special," Anderson said. "My kids and family will remember this for the rest of their lives."
