MLB All-Star pitcher Jacob deGrom is setting the record straight regarding his decision to opt out of his deal with the New York Mets and test free agency.

The 35-year-old is peeved at insinuations that he wanted out of New York, something he admits is not true when he spoke to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

"You know me pretty well - I like to pitch and that's about it. I understand the other stuff that comes with it, but what I want to do is take the field, play and then get ready for the next time I play. I felt like I did that in New York," the four-time All-Star stated.

Degrom agreed to a five-year $185 million deal with the Texas Rangers on December 2, 2022, per MLB.com. However, most were under the impression he would return to the Mets before that blockbuster deal was signed.

It was also reported at that time by SNY's Andy Martino that deGrom never gave the Mets a chance to make a last offer. The 2014 NL Rookie of the Year would then claim that the Rangers made him feel more wanted in Texas.

Rangers' run on pause

Unfortunately for deGrom, he is on the sidelines as he recovers from Tommy John surgery last June to repair a tear in his ulnar collateral ligament.

The two-time Cy Young Award winner appears to be recovering well. In fact, a previous post here on Sports World News detailed how deGrom has regained full range motion in his pitching arm.
