FC Barcelona Femini midfielder Alexia Putellas added another monumental achievement to her career on Sunday, October 16.

Widely regarded as the best female footballer of this generation, the 29-year-old midfielder became the club's all-time leading goalscorer with her 182nd goal in 404 appearances wearing the Blaugrana striped shirt.

Alexia made the historic strike off a cross from midfielder Patri Guijarro in the 51st minute of Barcelona's away game against Atlético Madrid, surpassing her former teammate Jenni Hermoso.

Putellas revealed that she had been entirely unaware that she had already eclipsed the record.

"It is a privilege and an honor to move past my [Spain] teammate Jenni. It was a pleasure to play with her at this club," the reigning Ballon d'Or Feminin winner said.

Hermoso had previously scored 181 goals for the club during two separate spells, from 2013 to 2017 and then again from 2019 to 2022.

Notably, the Spanish forward had recently garnered attention for an incident involving an unsolicited kiss from former Spanish FA President Luis Rubiales during the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup Final awarding ceremony.

Barcelona remains on top of Liga F table

The Spanish giants kept their spot at the top of the Liga F table with a narrow 1-0 victory, winning their first five fixtures in the domestic league.

Simultaneously, eternal rivals Real Madrid have also clinched victories in their first five games, leading to a shared points tally with Barcelona.

Nonetheless, Barcelona's superior goal difference has allowed them to retain the top position.
