The Derion Kendrick arrest may cost the Los Angeles Rams this season, although this still depends on further sanctions he could face from the team or the NFL.
The Los Angeles Rams starting quarterback was reportedly arrested at a traffic stop in Hollywood, just a couple of hours after his team's 26-9 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Monday, October 16, TMZ reported.
Authorities reportedly pulled over the 23-year-old player for a traffic violation. However, cops found a gun and marijuana in his car. He is now facing a felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon.
This led to Derion Kendrick's arrest at 2:14 a.m. local time. The latest on the Los Angeles Rams player is that there remained no records of his release.
Rams coach Sean McVay admitted to the media that he knew Kendrick's arrest. However, the 37-year-old declined to answer some questions tied to the issue and did not give an update on whether the former Georgia Bulldog was still in jail, ESPN reported.
"We're continuing to gather more information," McVay said. "And so, until then, I'm going to just kind of leave it at that until I have all the appropriate information. And I don't think it would be appropriate for me to speak on things that I don't have the totality of it other than knowing that he was arrested early this morning."
McVay tweaks needed after Derion Kendrick's arrest
Derion Kendrick's arrest was unfortunate, considering he has been performing well for the Rams this NFL season. He has started every game this season, proving to be a defensive pillar.
Should he miss significant time, he will likely lose his starting job. McVay will turn to rookie Tre Tomlinson or Duke Shelley to take over Kendrick's post, NBC Los Angeles reported.
