The San Francisco 49ers will face the Minnesota Vikings in their next NFL assignment, although they may be shorthanded. Based on the latest Niners injury report, RB Christian McCaffrey's status against the Vikings is up in the air.
The two-time Pro Bowler underwent medical testing on Monday, October 16, to determine the extent of his injury. McCaffrey was forced out of their loss to the Cleveland Browns, 17-19, due to an apparent rib injury, Kansascity.com reported.
"He's in MRIs right now, so we're still waiting on the imaging," Niners coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters.

Until an official diagnosis on the health of McCaffrey comes out, Shanahan is left pondering whether the 27-year-old player can play or be forced to miss several games.
McCaffrey had been working hard for the 49ers before the injury. He rushed 11 times for 43 yards on Sunday, October 15, where he caught three passes of nine net yards. This included a 13-yard touchdown courtesy of a pass by Purdy in the opening minutes of that NFL matchup.
More injury woes for the Niners
Aside from McCaffrey, Shanahan also provided an injury update on another player, Deebo Samuel. The 27-year-old also went down with an injury in the first period against the Vikings and never returned, per Bleacher Report. He finished with only 11 carries for 43 yards and three catches in that game.
With their offensive options taking a hit, Shanahan may have to make do with other players. J.P. Mason and Elijah Mitchell may have to step up.
"Hopefully, Christian will be good to go this week and if not we've got a group of backs we can rely on," Shanahan added.
