The Colorado Buffaloes are back on the winning track after living up to their billing as favorites to prevail over the Arizona State Sun Devils, 27-24, on Saturday, October 7.
Buffs coach Deion Sanders got a huge lift from another recruit in Alejandro Mata. The sophomore was responsible for the game-winning field goal with about 12 seconds left in play, the Dallas Morning News reported.
After the game, Coach Prime shared what he told the Hondura-born player before that marginal and game-winning kick after the Sun Devils tried to freeze Mata.
"Mata don't miss," Sanders said after the game. "You can call a timeout and freeze him all you want; that don't mean nothing to Mata. That's who he is, and what he always says to me when I walk over to him and give him a hug, he says 'I don't miss.' And I love it. So I told him 'Do your thing. Do your thing. Get your shine on. It's your moment, baby. Live it.'"
First Pac-12 win for Sanders, Buffaloes
The Buffaloes' latest win also ended the eight-game Pac-12 losing streak of Colorado, Fox Sports reported.
Aside from Mata, Shedeur Sanders also did his share in helping the Buffaloes get back to their winning ways. The Heisman trophy candidate accounted for two touchdowns and worked to set up Mata for that game-winning field goal.
It was not an easy day in the office for the son of Coach Prime, though, getting sacked five times and was limited to 239 yards on 26-of-42 passing.
The Buffaloes will face Stanford Cardinal next on October 13 at Folsom Field, with Colorado favored to prevail per OddsShark.com.
