The Colorado Buffaloes may have lost back-to-back games after a hot 3-0 start this football season. Shedeur Sanders is one of the big reasons for that run with his performance.
Given his run, Sanders has been racking up impressive stats one after the other except in one department - sacks. This has caught the eyes of an unnamed Pac-12 assistant coach who believes the son of Buffs coach Deion Sanders is padding stats by taking sacks, The Athletic reported.
"I think they want to rack up some stats for Shedeur. He really holds on to the ball a long time. I think he takes sacks because he doesn't want to affect his completion percentage," the mystery coach stated.
A look at the stats of Shedeur Sanders this season somehow proves that. The 2021 Jerry Rice Award winner has completed 74.8% of his passes, throwing 15 touchdown passes against two interceptions, per the New York Post.
However, Sanders has already been sacked 25 times in five games. In the eyes of the unnamed coach, Shedeur Sanders is padding his stats.
Shedeur Sanders taking a huge gamble
While Sander may be intentionally taking sacks, it would also be ridiculous in some ways. Assuming he does it on purpose, he is putting his body at risk due to potential injuries.
Then again, it is also possible that this is happening because of the competition Sanders and the Buffaloes have faced thus far.
Lastly, there is the question of defense for the Colorado Buffaloes. They are missing several players, which is another possibility as to why Shedeur Sanders is taking hits.
The Buffs will try to get back into the win column against the Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday, October 7. The Colorado Buffaloes are favorites to prevail, per USA Today.
