The San Francisco 49ers are having a great season thus far, but some question the role of Brock Purdy. Niners coach Kyle Shanahan came to the defense of the 23-year-old play-caller and branded the backlash as "ridiculous."

"That's pretty ridiculous," Kyle Shanahan said via 49ersWebzone.com. "You just got to watch the tape. I mean, he plays at a high level every time he's been out there. And he's done it in a lot of different situations versus a lot of different defenses, on the road, at home, in playoff games, when injured."

Shanahan responded to claims that Brock Purdy was a system quarterback. In the eyes of critics, Purdy has proven to be efficient because he fits Kyle Shanahan's system.

Purdy inherited the starting QB role of the Niners last year and was undefeated in his regular season starts. The former Iowa State Cyclone picked up from that and continued his run this 2023 NFL season.

So far, he has completed over 72 percent of his passes, including a 20-of-21 showing against the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday, October 1. He has also thrown five touchdowns and no interceptions in the 49ers 4-0 start, USA Today reported.

Aaron Rodgers praises Brock Purdy

Aside from Shanahan, another key NFL figure who took notice of Brock Purdy's success is New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, SI.com reported.

"I think people always have to have some sort of caveat, like Kyle's such a good play caller and he's got CMC and Deebo and Kittle and all these guys. At some point, I think some of that's going to die down, they're going to realize that Brock's a pretty decent player. ... I got nothing but praise for Brock and respect the way he's played," the four-time NFL MVP stated on The Pat McAfee Show.
