The Green Bay Packers remain clueless about David Bakhtiari's future. Based on the latest about his status, Bakhtiari remains on the injured reserve.

The 32-year-old underwent arthroscopic knee surgery last week and is set to have another one soon. Given those medical procedures, seeing David Bakhtiari return this NFL season does not look promising, ESPN reported.

When asked to comment on the matter, Packers coach Matt LaFleur told reporters that it would be best if Bakhtiari provided the timeline on when he could return.

"I'll let Dave comment on that. I know he wanted to talk to you guys later on. I'll let him talk about his timeline," the Packers coach said.

With most projecting he is out for the 2023-24 NFL season, the next question is what the future holds for the two-time First-team All-Pro. After signing a four-year deal in 2020, Bakhtiara's contract underwent changes in the following years.

For the coming season, the cap numbers of Bakhtiari's deal spiked to $40.565 million, a huge sum the Packers would need to deal with.

Green Bay could save as much as $21.5 million in cap space for 2024 if they release or trade Bakhtiari in the offseason.

Bakhtiari's injury history

Bakhtiari played for the Packers in the season opener before sitting out the second and third games after undergoing his fourth surgery in three years, NBC Sports reported.

Since suiting up for the Packers in 2013, Bakhtiari started in 131 regular season games. However, injuries have since hampered him. He played just one game in 2021.

He played 11 games last season, sitting out three because of his knee injury and three more to recover from an appendectomy, the Associated Press reported.
