Kyrie Irving of the Dallas Mavericks has been notorious for making bold statements on practically anything. However, the eight-time All-Star may have hit a nerve that will get the Cleveland Cavaliers angry and fired up.

The 31-year-old Irving weighed in on his decision to sign with the Mavericks, explaining how he agreed to stay there after signing a three-year $126 million deal, via Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News.

However, "Uncle Drew" may have gone beyond what was being asked of him when he insinuated that he wished the Mavericks were in a position to draft him when he entered the league in 2011.

Although he didn't specifically mention regretting he was selected by the Cavaliers in 2011, that comment is likely to fire up the Cavaliers and its supporters heading into the 2023-24 NBA season.

Can Kyrie and Luka co-exist?

Although questions were in the air on how Irving could co-exist with resident star Luka Doncic, Mavs head coach Jason Kidd offered a different view of things when he spoke on "The Saturday Stein Line with Marc Stein."

"Looking at our roster, hopefully we don't have to play [Luka] 40-plus minutes a night," Kidd started. "But I think right now I'm excited with Luka and [Kyrie Irving] and having Luka ready to go and to achieve his goals, and that's to win a championship."

The key take there is Doncic not being tasked to play heavy minutes. The Slovenian has not been spared from injuries, particularly his quad issue.

When the Mavericks opened training camp, the four-time All-Star guard addressed his health status and said that his injury is improving, SI.com reported.

"It's better," Doncic said. "We still have some appointments, so when we get a clear [idea] of what it is, we'll let you guys know."
