New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley's sprained right ankle is displaying signs of improvement, and team head coach Brian Daboll has refused to exclude him from Thursday night's game versus the San Francisco 49ers.

"I'm not saying that he's out yet. He's a quick healer. I'm not saying that he's in, he's out, we're gonna take it all the way up with him until Thursday," the 45-year-old tactician said.

Daboll added that the two-time Pro Bowl selection feels a lot better on Tuesday compared to Sunday when the injury occurred.

Despite Daboll's positive outlook, Barkley did not take part in the team's walkthrough on Tuesday, according to the practice report.

League insider Adam Schefter of ESPN initially reported that Barkley would miss three weeks due to the "ordinary" ankle sprain, but the doctors did not find any major damage on the joint.

How did Saquon Barkley sprain his ankle?

The New York Giants claimed a 31-28 victory over the Cardinals in Arizona on Sunday, despite being down 20-0 at halftime.

During the fourth quarter of the game, Barkley injured his ankle when he was tackled by Cardinals linebacker Krys Barnes after a short run on the drive that led to the game-winning field goal.

The 2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year could not walk on his own power and required assistance from trainers to reach the bench.
