The Seattle Seahawks will add a veteran presence to their 53-man roster by promoting cornerback Artie Burns from the practice squad, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Technically, this would be a return to the squad for the 28-year-old, who has been with the Seahawks since March 2022, bouncing from the practice squad to the active roster.
Players could only be promoted from the practice squad three times before being signed to the active roster. With this, the Seahawks are likely committing to have Burns on their main squad for the rest of the 2023 NFL season.
The Miami native has already played in two of the Seahawks' games this season, appearing in 33 defensive snaps.
Burns appeared in three games for the Seahawks in 2022 but did not record a single statistic.
He played college football for the University of Miami from 2013 to 2015.

Burns was a former first-round pick
The cornerback was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft with the 25th overall pick.
Burns spent his first four seasons with the Pennsylvania-based team but did not make the impact expected from a first-round pick during his time there.
He signed with the Chicago Bears for the 2020 NFL season, but he sustained a torn ACL during a team practice in August before the start of the season.
The former Miami Hurricane left the Bears after the 2021 season.
