The Cleveland Browns plan to check out available running backs to fill the void left by Nick Chubb, who is set to undergo season-ending knee surgery. Cam Akers and Kareem Hunt led the list of names the Browns are considering.
Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski admitted they cannot just replace a Nick Chubb. However, they will explore all options on the table to fill the void, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported.
"You don't replace Nick Chubb," Stefanski said. "You just don't do that. Great players in the league, you look around, they go out. It's always not one person that replaces a player of [Chubb's] caliber. So, everybody's got to do a little bit more, a little bit more everywhere."
Akers or Hunt?
Cam Akers of the Los Angeles Rams is reportedly on the trading block as the 24-year-old player plays out the final year of his rookie contract. He had a good outing against the Seattle Mariners for the Rams but did not see action against the San Francisco 49ers.
As for Kareem Hunt, he is no stranger to Browns football. He spent the last four seasons in Cleveland and has not signed with any NFL team since his contract expired last season, NBC Sports reported.
Ford is the No. 1 QB for now
Stefanski added that Jerome Ford will take over as the Browns' feature back following the Nick Chubb injury.
After the four-time Pro Bowler was carted away, Ford rushed for 106 yards on 16 carries, including a 69-yard run that set up a Browns touchdown in the Browns' loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates, 26-22, ESPN reported.
