UFC President Dana White has been known to initially blurt out things stemming from the heat of the moment, and it appears he is backtracking a bit as far as a potential rematch between Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya is concerned.

Strickland stunned now-former middleweight champion Adesanya via decision at UFC 293 at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney last weekend, and the UFC top brass mentioned in the post-fight conference that a rematch between the two gladiators is possible via MMA Mania.

However, the 54-year-old executive is now clarifying his comments, especially after several personalities question the move of giving the 34-year-old deposed champion a second crack at Strickland.

This stems from the fact that other fighters could make sense as far as Strickland's next opponent is concerned. That list includes Dricus Du Plessis and Jared Cannonier, among others, MMA Junkie reported.

"Never once did I say, 'Yes, we're going to f*cking do this rematch.' I said, 'Yeah, rematch sounds - you know, we'll see what happens.' There's obviously lots of options out there, and we'll see what happens. But, yes, I'm still not opposed to an Israel rematch. We'll see how it goes," White quipped.

Strickland-Adesanya rematch criticized

However, there are those opposed to the idea of seeing a Strickland vs. Adesanya rematch. One of them is Henry Cejudo.

"My question is for you, Israel: Is it smart for you to take a fight against a guy like Sean Strickland? Is Sean Strickland the guy to come back after being dominated in a five-round fight? I didn't see that spark in him. It was a trip. It's not like Sean Strickland even did anything special either. He fought him the way he fought everybody else, and he was able to win," the former UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion said on his YouTube channel.
