Aaron Rodgers of the New York Jets is on the clock, and there is mounting pressure for him to prove that he can still play at 39. Aside from that, critics want to see if the four-time NFL MVP still has some gas in the tank following a forgettable season.
However, the Super Bowl XLV MVP does not appear to be pressured and feels he has nothing to prove. Rodgers is confident he can make up for his poor statistical showing last NFL season and plans to play the game as it should be, ABC News reported.
"I'm not looking at this like I have to bounce back or do anything [special]," he said on Thursday, September 7, after the Jets practice. "I just have to play the way I know how to play. I've been working my ass off for the last six months to try to put a better product on the field than last year. And I expect to."
Rodgers spent the majority of his career playing for the Green Bay Packers. He was traded to the Jets last April, along with a couple of draft picks, Newyorkjets.com reported.
Rodgers optimistic on Jets' Super Bowl chances
In his opinion, Rodgers believes the Jets can make a serious run for the Super Bowl. The NFL veteran knows what it takes to win the championship and believes he is surrounded by players who can make it happen when he spoke with Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports.
"There's a part of that is speaking things into existence, the idea of a manifestation," Rodgers stated. "The other part is a realistic look at the locker room, knowing that there's anywhere from 6-to-12 teams every year that can probably do it and we're one of those 6-to-12."
Rodgers and the Jets try to walk the talk for this NFL season starting Monday, September 11, when they host the three-time defending AFC East champions Buffalo Bills in Week 1 action.
