The Arizona Diamondbacks are doing everything to make a push for the 2023 MLB playoffs.

The Phoenix-based team will call up standout shortstop prospect Jordan Lawlar to help with the cause, as they finished Wednesday with a 72-68 win-loss record, second in the National League West standings, and one game behind the final NL wild-card spot.

D-backs manager Torey Lovullo confirmed the development on Wednesday but wasn't sure how to use Lawlar yet.

"I don't know what the menu is. We've had so many moving parts to what's been happening over the last 12 hours, that I haven't had a chance to sit down and think about how I'm going to inject him into this lineup," the 58-year-old said.

Lawlar was drafted with the sixth overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, and he was playing for the D-backs's Triple-A minor league affiliate Reno Aces before being called up.

The 21-year-old was recently promoted to Reno in the middle of August from the Double-A Amarillo Sod Poodles.

Two-time Golden Glove award winner will make room for Lawlar

The team will designate two-time Golden Glove award-winning shortstop Nick Ahmed for assignment to open up a roster spot for the hyped prospect.

Lawlar will join the team as they embark on an eight-game road trip, with four games each against the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets.

The Cubs also vied for a playoff spot, making the next four games crucial.
